CareMed policies

Does CareMed travel insurance offer the right policy for my trip abroad?
CareMed insurance plans are suitable for students, au pairs, trainees, language course students, tourists and globetrotters of all nationalities. No matter where your go - if you are younger than 70 years old and you don’t work for money during this time, CareMed has the right insurance for you!

Is there a maximum age limit for contracting CareMed insurance?
Everybody who has not yet reached the age of 70 can contract travel insurance with CareMed.

Is there a limit of coverage?
All our policies have unlimited coverage. Please note that CareMed offers travel insurance which means that there are limits and exclusions for certain treatments (for further information, please review our our schedule of benefits as well as terms and conditions).

I will take up employment during my stay abroad. Will CareMed insure me while being at work?
No insurance coverage exists if you take up employment for wage or profit. However, light duties, such as Au Pair jobs or internships, for which you receive only a small compensation and which are not insured by the employer, will be fully covered. There is always coverage for activities within the framework of a J-1, J-2 and H2B visa for entry into the U.S. or a Working Holiday Visa for entry into Australia or New Zealand.

Which is the maximum period for CareMed policies?
The maximum coverage is either 13 or 24 months depending on the policy. Please use our quote calculator to get detailed information about the policy suitable for your trip.After this period, you have the option to extend your insurance period subject to the terms of insurance available at that time.

Will CareMed policies be accepted when applying for a visa?
CareMed will be accepted for your visa application. The provided insurance cover complies with the requirements for a Schengen-Visa made by the decision of the European Union Council and the requirements for a J-1 Visa for the entry in the USA, for example.

Is it possible to insure families or groups?
While we don't offer a family plan, each member may sign up individually. If you have a group of more than 5, you may contact us and we will facilitate your application process.

Application

Are you traveling to more than one country?
If all your destinations are located outside of North America, indicate the country that you are primarily traveling to. You will be covered in any country except the USA, Canada and Cuba. If you are traveling to several countries including the USA or Canada, please choose 'worldwide' as your travel destination.

What kind of payment methods can I choose from?
The full amount can be paid by credit card or you can pay by monthly direct debit from a German account.

When do I get my insurance confirmation?
You have the possibility to print your payment and insurance confirmation right after your online application. Additionally, each insurance document will also be sent to the indicated e-mail address.

Is it possible to extend my insurance?
You do have the option to extend your insurance period subject to the terms of insurance available at that time. Please be aware that pre-existing conditions are not covered in the subsequent policy period. Please write us an e-mail at germany@caremed-travel.com for your request. Once the insurer approves your extension, a new insurance confirmation will be sent to you by e-mail.

Can I cancel my CareMed insurance?
Prior to the start date of your insurance, you may cancel your policy free of charge! Please send your request to germany@caremed-travel.com.

What happens if my trip ends prior to the initiate return date?
Please write to us immediately . The remaining premiums will be reimbursed after a waiting period of 60 days (if there were no claims). A cancellation fee of € 12,80 Euro/US$ 15,00 will be charged.

Claims/Emergency

What does deductible mean?
If you have a policy including a deductible, you have to pay the indicated amount for each injury or illness yourself. This amount will not be reimbursed by the insurer.

What happens in case of an emergency?
Your CareMed insurance plan includes CareMed Assist, our worldwide 24-hour emergency medical assistance service. By dialing this number, you will receive multilingual help and advice in the event of an emergency.The number is stated on your confirmation. Additionally, each insured has a personal login in order to receive detailed information for emergency assistance and claims processing. Please visit www.caremed-travelinsurance.com/login.

How do I know which physician I can go to?
You have a free choice of physician/hospital. If you are traveling in the USA, we strongly recommend medical providers participating in the First Health Network, in order to avoid additional costs for you. Please visit our website www.caremed-assistance.com (Find a provider) or call CareMed Assist to receive a list of providers in your area.

How do I file a claim?
Please send the following documents to the appropriate Claims Center within 60 days after the treatment: completed claim form all original itemized bills, receipts and records, related to a particular claim (please keep in mind to make copies for your own records) medical reports from the physician including any reports, laboratory and X-ray documents, etc. Additional information as well as contact data can be found under www.caremed-travelinsurance.com/login by using your personal login.

I need medication on a regular basis. Will CareMed cover the costs?
Pre-existing conditions are excluded from insurance coverage. Therefore, CareMed won't reimburse treatments costs related to conditions that were already treated prior to your trip.

Do I have to pay each treatment up-front?
Please inform the doctor/hospital that you are insured through CareMed. In most cases CareMed will pay the medical provider directly. If you receive the bill instead, please forward it together with a completed claim form to the applicable claims center.

The provider asks for immediate payment. Do I have to pay in advance?
In this case, please pay the provider and send the original invoice together with a completed claim form to the applicable claims office. You will find claim form and the address of your claims office on your insurance confirmation or login at www.caremed-travelinsurance.com/login.

I want to have a preventive medical check-up done. Will I be covered under my insurance benefits?
Any kind of routine examination, tests and check-ups, visual tests, allergy check-ups, pregnancy tests are excluded from insurance coverage.

Pre-existing conditions are excluded from coverage. What does that mean?
A treatment is considered pre-existing if you had a related condition within the last 12 months prior to your departure. For the complete list of limitations and exclusions, please read your terms and conditions.
